Patti Does Phoenix, 2-9-12

"I'm here just to watch her" was one of the comments heard from a spectator in the packed stands watching the gold medal match of the 4.0 mixed doubles at the 12th Annual Phoenix All City Tournament last week. They were talking about our very own Patti Decker. Having never set foot on a court with her partner, Paul, and losing their very first match, Paul and Patti ran the table through the losers bracket and were facing an undefeated team. They won the match in two straight games, forcing a final and deciding game. They were edged out in that game by a very experienced team, thus claiming the silver medal (and the hearts of all).
The tournament, run like clockwork by Northern Paddlers Dave and Gloria Leach, was at their park, Venture Out, and featured some of the best PB'ers in the area, not to mention some spectacular weather. Way to go Patti!
PS. In the 'where are they now?" trivia quiz, do you recognize the linesman snoozing in the chair behind Patti? Fortunately no controversial calls came his way.

Live, Work, Play Pickleball...The Cove

On the list of America's top 10 scenic PB courts. Thanks to Don and Steve, there are now two courts at the Cove, right off highway 10. As you head north on 10, take a left on Co Rd 79 (right after Sugar Daddy's), cross the RR tracks, take a left and you'll see the courts in a cul-de-sac on your right. See map under 'Places to Play' tab. BYON!
